Something not working?
The problems we are asked about most, and what usually causes them.
The wet-pour surface is crumbling or shedding granules
Usually too little binder in the mix, or the surface was walked on before it cured. Check the binder ratio for each layer and keep people off until it is fully cured.
The coloured surface has turned yellow
An aromatic binder was used in the coloured top layer. Coloured EPDM top layers need an aliphatic, UV-stable binder.
Water is pooling on the surface
Wet-pour is porous, but it cannot drain if the base underneath does not. Check the sub-base has a fall and drains.
Interlocking tiles are lifting or shifting
The base is uneven, or the tiles were laid without room to expand in the heat. Lay on a flat, firm base and leave a small gap at the edges.
Speed bump has worked loose
The fixings were too short or set in weak asphalt. Re-fix with longer rawl bolts into a sound base and refit the end caps.
A rubber gasket is swelling
The wrong rubber for the fluid. Natural rubber swells in oil and fuel; switch to nitrile for oil service.
The glue joint fails after a few days
Usually the contact adhesive was closed too early or too late. Let both coats go tack-dry, then press firmly in one go.
Castor wheels are flat-spotting or cracking
The castors are overloaded, or left standing under load. Recalculate the load per castor and size up.
